FAQs

 How old is Bunkado?

Bunkado was founded in 1946 by Tokio & Suye Ueyama.

What does Bunkado mean?

Bunkado means "house, or hall of culture".  Tokio Ueyama was an accomplished artist, and during his time, the store not only sold household necessities, but also served the artistic community with art supplies, bought and sold art work, and stocked items for traditional cultural pursuits like tea ceremony, ikebana, calligraphy and music.

We continue to stock material for traditional arts, crafts and culture.
